Finding RSS Feeds to Aggregate

Things to look for on a website's home page when looking for RSS feeds to syndicate on your site are the following:

  • a linked red XML button that looks like this: example of a red XML button (the link will be the RSS feed for that site)
  • often websites will have whole sections with links to RSS feeds. Check their "about" page or search their site for the word "RSS".
  • a link that is called "Syndicate this site (XML)"
  • anything linked as "RSS feed" or just "RSS" or "RSS 1.0" or "RSS 0.92" or "RSS 2.0"
  • Drupal can import all versions of RSS. To import Atom, see our section on syndicating an Atom feed.

Legal issues

Please note - most posts about how to aggregate RSS feeds forget to
mention that in most cases you can NOT just start using someone else's
feed on your web site without permission of the feed owner. Always
check the owner's website for information on their RSS Feeds. Most
commercial sources (CNN, etc) specifically state on their websites that
their RSS feeds are for personal, individual use only - any use on
websites, etc has to be authorized by them in writing.

Don't
get sued because you didn't check - using feeds without permission is
copyright infringement. Just because you CAN do it doesn't mean it's
LEGAL
