Add a Javascript (e.g. Google Adsense, SiteMeter, Blogrolling.com, etc.) Block to the Sidebar

If you want to add Google Adsense advertisements, a Site Meter or other public web statistcs tracker, or your blogroll from Blogrolling.com, you will need to follow a few additional steps when creating a block.

  1. Log in to the Google Adsense, Site Meter, Blogrolling.com or the service you are displaying content from. Generate the code you need to include on your site, and copy it to your computer's clipboard.
    • Some services will have PHP, HTML and Javascript versions of their code. Make sure you choose the Javascript, or barring that, the HTML version of the code.
  2. Login to your Bryght site.
  3. Click Administer (top menu) » Site building » Blocks.
  4. Click the Add block tab.
  5. Type a "Block description". This will show up in the heading for when users visit the site.
  6. Select the "Full HTML" filter. This is so that Javascript tags are not stripped out of the block text.
  7. If you see the WYSIWYG editor, you will need to switch to HTML mode. To do this, click the HTML mode button in HTMLArea button so that it appears pressed in or click the or "disable rich-text editor" link.
    • Bryght sites automatically disable the WYSIWYG editor for custom text blocks, so the above item may not apply to you.
  8. Paste in the code you copied from the service you are using.
  9. Click the "Save block" button.
  10. If you want a heading for the block, click the "configure" link for the block as listed, then type in a title and click "Save block".
    • Some services, notably Google Adsense, limit the wording you can choose for this heading. Consult their terms of service for more information.
  11. Follow the instructions to enable and set the order of the newly created block.
