Link to Other Pages On Your Site or to External Websites

Adding a Link to Text

The editor lets you create links to pages appearing on your website or to an external website.

  1. Type the link text.
  2. Select the text. You will need to do select text before the link button becomes active.
  3. Click the link button in TinyMCE button.
  4. In the box for Link URL:, type or paste in a full URL with the form http://www.example.com/ or relative link such as /about, which is a page on the site you are writing for.
  5. (optiona) Select a target. You can select the link to appear in a new window; the same frame (if your site was designed using frames); in the "top" frame; or you can select "Other" and type in the target yourself.
    • Open link in the same window
    • Open link in new window (generally not recommended, as this will break the back button for site readers)
  6. (optional) In the box for Title type some text that will appear when readers hover their mouse arrow over the link.
  7. (optional) Select a style for the link. Unless recommended by your site's administrator, you likely won't have to do this, so you can skip this step.
  8. Click Insert
