I notice that OPML is being mentioned again lately in the Blogoshpere. It seems to be an adequate way to generate some knowledge repositiories. Users can create OPML files that can be shared/built upon by other users. Any interest in developing an OPML module for Bryght sites?

Unlikely

There is OPML in the aggregator, for exporting all feeds that you have added.

I also spec'd an OPML module for import/export of book content (since it's in essence a hierarchical outline of content). It is unlikely to get built unless someone funds it.

OPML Module

I read your spec and am interested. Would not OPML be one of the best alternatives for financial information like income statements and balance sheets as they are basically tree like in nature. Also is not OPML XML based so that it could become useful for XBRL data?

XBRL, or eXtensible Business Reporting Language, "...permits the automatic exchange and reliable extraction of financial information across all software formats and technologies...[and] enhances the usability and transparency of financial information.  I recall someone commented on Om Malik's site that it would be great if someone created something like this...well, here it is already in development.

How much do you think such a module would cost and would it be necessary for one person to come up with all the funds or could I, for example, put up some seed money and see if there was other interest?

While OPML and XBRL are bot

While OPML and XBRL are both XML...this is a bit like saying humans and dolphins are both carbon-based life forms: it is unlikely that there would be any overlap unless you actually built something that took advantage of both.

You can always put up a seed money and see if other people are interested. However, you need to have a clear idea of what you want built -- the requirements. The OPML module I have specced out would be an easy way to organize general content -- I'm not sure how that connects with financial information in general.
