We've been putting more focus into our VPS-based Bryght Hosting and on creating different types of install profiles.
For starters, we'll actually be releasing a 4.7 version of "Bryght Standard" (the 4.6 version of which is running now). A corporate blogging version is another one that we have in the works.
Remember that with 5.0, we only have code freeze. Typically, it will take 2 / 3 months for a 1.0 release, and then it will take ~ 3 months for all the modules that we use to get updated. So, 5.0 would be ready to go no earlier than about March 2007.
Could you elaborate on the various install profiles that you're concentrating on? Would these profiles be part of the 4.7 "Bryght standard" release?
I'm especially interested in enabling/providing what essentially would be a music-centric distribution similar to what's discussed here on this drupal group. Hoping that Backstage was a first step in that direction...
Now that install profiles are in Drupal core, as we've pushed for since earlier releases, we can start working with the community to provide and maintain various distributions.
For our Bryght Hosting VPS product, we use a very minimal Bryght Base. The Bryght Standard that is available now will be re-worked for 4.7, along with an upgrade path from 4.6 so it should be relatively seamless.
Backstage needs re-working for 4.7, and will be done in a more open manner -- where the community can help define it. Note "will be done" -- it's on hold right now.
Corporate Blogging is another install profile that we've put some work into that we'll likely have available sooner rather than later.
An example of a "commercial" install profile that we've helped develop is Clubhouse for Cosmic Cubes, for organizations like the Optimist Club, Kiwanis, and other similar member-based groups.
Does that help? I've got an email pending to you as well.
I look forward to doing what I can to enable, and eventually resell, the various installs and distributions. Think that's going to be a huge step in getting Drupal to the masses.
I also have a few more specific questions/ideas, but will hit you back with another email.

Thank you for the clarity!
