VPS now, hosted service soon

Richard Eriksson's picture

Our VPS product, as Boris says, is 4.7 right now, and we're still working on getting the hosted service updated so you can press a button and upgrade your site. contact us if you're interested in the VPS option.

I may be interested at some point...

...but I'm not exactly clear on what the VPS option entails. Is this more appropriate for hosting/reselling multiple sites for multiple clients, setting up sub-domains, or test-sites?

Any additional details you can provide would be helpful...

VPS

It means you will have full access (via SSH and STFP, for example) to a server and dedicated resources (processor, RAM, etc.) to your sites.  You can do "hosting/reselling multiple sites for multiple clients, setting up sub-domains, or test-sites" on both the hosted service as well as the VPS (on the VPS you would typically have one installation of Drupal, which can handle multiple sites, multiple subdomains, and test sites, some technical details of which Boris talked about in his blog post about IBM's excellent series on Drupal).  With a VPS, you'd have control over what modules you can install on a per-site basis. The VPS is generally the better way to go for higher-traffic sites (since you would get dedicated resources for the site, and not the equal footing that you have with the hosted service) and if you want a higher level of customization than what the Bryght hosted service allows.
