Shared interest links

Categories:

How do I setup functionality for User Profiles where users can list their interests and then link to a page with others who share the same interest? It's not clear how to get the tags in a linkable format from plain text.

With Bryght Basic, I'm using the default Interests "field" (Administer, User management, Profiles). It's all setup so why aren't the tags linkable.

Support dialog:

> Me: The default profile already has an "Interests" field and it's set to
> public however the tags don't appear as links. The field type is
> specificed as "freeform list".

Support: Ah, for that, when you're creating the field, give the field a "Page
title". That way, it will add links to what people add as their
interests.

So I looked... This field was already been created with the install. Anyway. At Edit field, I see it has no Page title, which is different from the Field title. So I add Interests as the Page title. Does this work? Yes, it does. But "Interests" is not a good title. So, I change the title to "VT-APT users who share your interest:" Looks better.

Now, how do I get the tag words to appear on the output page, so users will see the interest "tag" they just selected?

Is this topic covered anywhere in this site?

Under "Visibility" there are 4 choices for how you want the profile field to appear: choose the bottom one, "Public field, content shown on profile page and on member list pages.", and that should get what users type in to be displayed on their user profile. Since you will have put in a "Page title", what users type in as their interest will show up as a link, and clicking on that link will get all users who share that link. We have some information on how to setup user profiles which goes into what I covered here and a little more.

We do encourage people to ask if they can't find what they're looking for, and we are working to make support.bryght.com a little easier to navigate and search.

Automatically present the interest tag word on the output page

... clicking on that link will get all users who share that link.

What I'm looking for next is how to present the interest tag words (or variables?) on the output page automatically. So my output page 'Page title' would read not merely,

VT-APT users who share your interest:

which I set in the Page title field, but will also include the tag word mid-sentence, like this:

VT-APT users who share your interest in 'word variable':

or

VT-APT users who share your interest in soccer:

After this I would like to customize the listed users, maybe by putting their usernames in bold.

"We do encourage people to

"We do encourage people to ask if they can't find what they're looking for, and we are working to make support.bryght.com a little easier to navigate and search."

Is there a specific thread here where people can ask "stupid questions" without feeling stupid? Posting a new thread might inhibit some users from providing feedback for fear of having the spotlight on their post.

Where's the edit link? I'd like to edit my initial post. Hmm.

I know I've made a typo or two on forums in the past that I wish I could have corrected myself, so you should be able to see an edit button now.
