How To Create Client Sites

The process below is how to create sites for clients "manually" using the reseller module.

First Steps

  • Make sure the Reseller module is enabled under Administer (top menu) » Site building » Modules.
  • If you're not logged in as the first user of the site, make sure you give yourself permission to create sites and edit clients. That's under Administer (top menu) » User management » Access control. You would want to give yourself the "administer clients" permission. You can also enable permissions to "access signup" in the reseller module. If you give this permission to the anonymous user, then anyone can signup for a site automatically, with you as their reseller.

Note: The admin user name and password are sent directly to you as the reseller. In the future, you will be able to toggle whether it is sent to you or directly to your client, as well as customize the welcome email.

Create Clients and Sites Using the Reseller Module

  1. Login to that site with the user name and password you were given in your initial email
  2. Once in the reseller site, click Administer (top menu) » Reseller » Clients
    • You will be your first client, meaning you can add sites for yourself if you so choose.
  3. To create a client, click the Add new tab.
    1. First Name and Last Name can be the company or organization name, or it can be a person's name.
    2. Organization Name is the name associated with organization. It can be the same as the person's name.
    3. Type on the email address. You will need to do this twice for verification.
  4. Click add client

Once you have clients listed, you can create sites associated with them. To do this:

  1. Go back to Administer (top menu) » Reseller, click on Site.
  2. Type in the client's name. This is an 'autocomplete' field, so it will search the clients as you type, and drop down any matches.
  3. Type in the site's name.
  4. Type in the URL for the site. You can type in a domain name that does not exist yet, as a temporary URL will be created for you.

You will then receive a login email from which you can configure the site before handing it off to a client.

Comments

New client site stuck in 'requested' state.

I went through the above process to create a client site. The new site now shows up in my reseller list of sites with a status of 'requested'. Additionally, I did not receive an email with the 'admin' user/pass for the new client site (as it indicates above).
How do I activate the new client site?

All better now

Reseller module disabled.

When I clicked "Become Reseller", the become_reseller module was disabled, but the reseller module wasn't enabled automatically. Not sure what the condition for this behavior is.
