Create a Weblink

The Weblink module enables content creators to add links to websites and monitor the amount of times people click the link. The module also includes functionality to monitor whether the website has changed. Using categories, you can create a directory of external links on your site.

  1. Login
  2. Click create content » weblink.
  3. Enter a title.
  4. If you have the right permission, add a path alias.
  5. In the Link: box, enter a fully-qualified URL. That means that the link must start with http:// (or another scheme, such as ftp:// or webcal:// though http:// is the most common) e.g. http://www.bryght.com
  6. If you permission to change the monitoring settings for the weblink you are creating you should see a box titled "URL monitoring":
    1. to monitor the URL, check the box next to "Monitor URL"
    2. select an interval. It's generally best to select at least an hour, to keep processing and bandwidth usage to a minimum
    3. select a byte threshold. Some sites change marginally (e.g. to fix typos), so choose a number that you think will be indicative of a substantial update to an external website.
    4. select the URL to monitor. This will most likely be the same as the weblink, but the module can keep better track of updates if the site if monitored URL is an RSS feed.
  7. Select a category to place in the Weblinks directory.
  8. Write a description for the link. This can be a review of the site or a summary of its contents.

Survey

Allows for the creation of web forms which can be filled out by users and submitted. Submissions are emailed to a chosen email address and are also stored in the database. The responses to a survey can be viewed online, as well as downloaded in an Excel-compatible format.

Weblink

The weblink module allows you to create a directory of links to external sites. These are organized by creating a set of categories to associate with weblinks. The module also tracks the number of outgoing clicks on links.

Blog

Categories:

A blog -- short for weblog -- is a website with frequently-updated compelling content, in reverse chronological order, each item having its own URL (often called a "permalink", short for permanent link).

Book

A book is actually two separate things. One is a hierarchical structure or outline that can contain any other node type. So, for instance, you could add a blog entry, a story -- or even a weblink -- to a book outline. This is a good way to organize content (especially different kinds of content) without having to create yet another category. An example would be "Mexico 2004" -- you could tag all of the content you create (like blog posts, images, etc.) with a term like "Travel", and then order them all in your Mexico 2004 book (since you are unlikely to add to a category called Mexico 2004 in the future).
